DESERT ITALY

In recent years, some natural and agricultural environments are transforming into arid and inhospitable landscapes, incapable of supporting life. Extreme events are increasingly frequent: long periods of drought are followed by floods that wipe out soil already devastated by aridity. The history of the Sahara, an anthropic desert, does not seem to push public authorities to act. This photographic reportage investigates the process of desertification, which in some areas of our country has already reached a critical point. The complex and delicate biological communities of inland waters are witnessing the disappearance of the habitats in which they live, reproduce, and feed, season after season. We document some of the most affected areas, but we also want to tell the story of wetlands in all their beauty, importance, and complexity, starting with the stories hidden in every single drop of water.
